In a stock exchange filing, Reliance Jio Infocomm said the company's board has approved the appointment of Akash M Ambani, non-executive director, as chairman of the board of directors of the company." It said that the Board of Directors in their meeting held on June 27 noted the resignation of Mukesh D Ambani as Director of the company effective from the close of working hours on June 27, 2022. Akash has been closely involved with the disruptive and inclusive growth path charted by the digital services and consumer retail propositions of Reliance group and is now leading the creation of the 'convergence dividend' for over 500 million consumers, digitally and with highinclusivity across geographies and income levels. His elevation as Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm recognises the specific contributions made by him to the digital services journey and rededicates him to even higher levels of responsibilities, going forward. Mukesh Ambani will continue to be the Chairman of Jio Platforms Ltd, the flagship company that owns all Jio digital services brands including Reliance Jio Infocomm. Akash Ambani, who has graduated from Brown University with a major in Economics, has been closely involved with the creation of the digital ecosystem around Jio's 4G proposition. He was closely involved with a team of engineers in inventing and launching an India-specs focussed Jiophone in 2017 which became quite a revolutionary device to take many people out of 2G to 4G. Akash personally led the key acquisitions made by Jio in the digital space in the last few years and has also been keenly involved with the development of new technologies and capabilities including AIML and blockchain. TATA MOTORS TO INCREASE CV PRICES FROM JULY 1 CHENNAI: Come July 1, commercial vehicles of Tata Motors Ltd will turn costly as the company announced a price hike on Tuesday. According to Tata Motors from July 1, onwards there will be a price hike of 1.5-2.5 per cent of its commercial vehicles. The percentage of hike will depend upon the individual model and variant. "While the company takes extensive measures to absorb a significant portion of the increased input costs, at various levels of manufacturing, the steep rise in overall input costs makes it imperative to pass on a residual proportion via a minimised price hike," the company said. St. Xavier’s bus overturns in Sikkim, students safe; FM assures help PC JHA RANCHI: A Sikkim bus overturned on Tuesday on an educational trip carrying a student of St Xavier's College, Ranchi. 22 students have been injured in the incident. Out of these, 6 have fractures while two students have got head injuries. The Principal of St Xavier College informed that 66 students and 4 teachers had left for Sikkim on June 22 for this educational tour. UDAIPUR: In a gruesome incident, a tailor was hacked to death in broad daylight inside his shop on a crowded street in Udaipur for supporting now-suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma on social media over her controversial remarks on Prophet Muhammed. The attackers entered his shop and stabbed him multiple times with daggers and also slit his throat. A video of the incident where the accused have claimed responsibility for the murder has gone viral on social media. The shops in Hathipol, Ghantaghar, Ashwani Bazar, Dehli Gate and Maldas Street in Udaipur have pulled down their shutters in protest against the incident. The body of the victim was still lying outside the shop till the time of filing this report. The family members of the deceased have demanded Rs 50 lakh and a government job as compensation. The victim has been identified as Kanhaiyalal Teli (40), a tailor who ran a shop by the name of Supreme Tailors in Dhanmandi. At around 2.30 pm on Tuesday, the two miscreants entered his shop on the pretext of giving their measurements for cloth stitching. By the time Kanhaiyalal could understand anything, the miscreants attacked him multiple times with daggers, resulting in his death. Top police officers and an FSL team are on the spot collecting evidence. Ten days back, he had put up a social media post in favour of Nupur Sharma. Since then, people from a particular community were threatening to kill him. Troubled by the constant threats, Kanhaiyalal did not even open his shop for six days besides filing a police complaint in this matter. The police asked him to remain careful for a few days. District Collector Tara Chand Meena and SP Manoj Chaudhary also reached the spot after receiving the news of the gruesome murder. Choudhary said that action will be taken against the culprits. Asked about the threats received by the victim, the SP said that all records related to the deceased are being investigated. NEW DELHI/MUMBAI: A brand new Pawan Hans' Sikorsky chopper with 9 people on board crashed into the Arabian Sea, about 50 nautical miles from the Mumbai coast on Tuesday, killing four people -- including three ONGC employees. The helicopter, which was part of the six Sikorsky S-76D helicopters that Pawan Hans had recently leased from Milestone Aviation Group, was about 4-5 minutes away from its destination - ONGC's Sagar Kiran rig - when the incident took place, company officials with direct knowledge of the matter said. The chopper went down around 1145 hrs, just 1 nautical mile away from Sagar Kiran, but managed to stay afloat with the help of the attached floaters, helping rescuers pull out all the nine, including two pilots, after ONGC and Navy/Coast Guard scrambled in one of the fastest rescue missions in the western offshore. Four of the nine pulled out were unconscious and airlifted in a Navy chopper to a hospital in Mumbai, where they were declared dead, an official said. Three of the dead are employees of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), the stateowned firm which had hired helicopter service from Pawan Hans to support its oil and gas exploration and production operations in the western offshore. The fourth person belongs to a contractor working for ONGC. NEW DELHI: The Subject Expert Committee (SEC) in a meeting held on Friday recommended Emergency Use Authorisation (EUA) for India's first mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, sources told ANI on Tuesday. The Drugs controller general of India (DCGI) is expected to give Emergency Use Authorisation to Gennova's mRNA vaccine any time soon. The SEC under India's drug regulator found data submitted by Gennova Biopharmaceuticals satisfactory in the Friday meeting, people in the know told ANI. The company submitted data in April and provided additional data in May. "Gennova is in communications with the regulatory agency and submitting all necessary data and information required for the product approval," said Gennova's spokesperson. The direction was given after the Directorate of Enforcement's (ED) advocate BMP Singh sought time for filing a reply to the bail petition. Singhal has appealed for bail on the grounds of her illnesses. She is lodged in the Birsa Munda Central jail since May 25. The ED had arrested her on May 11 in connection with the MNREGA scam and money laundering. Her husband's chartered accountant Suman Singh was also nabbed. It may be stated here that ED is presently interrogating various officials and people close to power regarding irregularities in Mnrega scam and illegal mining.
