The 19 kg commercial cylinder will cost Rs 1998.50 in Delhi from today, sources told ANI. It will provide some relief to restaurants, eateries and tea stalls etc which constitute the largest user segment of the 19 kg cylinder. Officials of the shrine said the stampede occurred when a large number of devotees entered the Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan without permission slips. “Large number of devotees had come to pay obeisance at the shrine to mark the new year. The stampede occurred around 2.45 a.m. today. “It took place outside the sanctum sanctorum of the shrine. Senior officials of the government and the shrine board are on the spot. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is personally monitoring the relief and rescue operation,” officials said. “Extremely saddened by the loss of lives due to a stampede at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan. Over 12,000 NGOs including Jamia, Oxfam can no longer get foreign aid NEW DELHI: over 12,000 NGOs including Oxfam and Jamia Milia Islamia will no longer be able to receive any foreign donations as the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has not cleared the renewal of their Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) license. The NGOs, which also include the Indian Medical Association and the Leprosy Mission, whose licenses had expired over the past few months and now have lost their FCRA licenses as of Saturday. Oxfam India is in the list of NGOs whose FCRA certificates have expired and not those whose registrations have been ANI DEC YOY GST COLLECTION RISES 13% TO OVER RS 1.29 LAKH CRORE NEW DELHI: India’s GST collection rose 13 per cent in December 2021 on a year-on-year basis to Rs 1,29,780 crore. However, December’s collections declined on a sequential basis from Rs 1,31,526 crore reported for November. “The revenues for the month of December 2021 are 13 per cent higher than the GST revenues in the same month last year and 26 per cent higher than the GST revenues in December 2019,” the Ministry of Finance said in a statement. The Centre’s move comes days after it, on December 25, refused to renew the FCRA license of Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity, which runs orphan- ages and shelters for the poor, sick and destitute across India “for not meeting eligibility conditions under FCR Act and Foreign Contribution Regulation Rules” and due to “some adverse inputs”. The Ministry on Friday extended the December 31 deadline for validity of FCRA registration of NGOs to March 31, 2022 or till the date of disposal of the renewal application, whichever is earlier, “in respect of only those entities who fulfil certain criteria”. Sources in the Ministry said that around 6,000 NGOs have not applied for the renewal of the FCRA license. According to a sources, now there are only 16,829 NGOs in India which still have a FCRA license, while a total of 22,762 NGOs are registered under the Foreign Contributions Regulation Act as of now. Yatra at the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine resumed Saturday afternoon after 12 people were killed and 14 injured in a stampede at the shrine in the early hours of Saturday. Divisional Commissioner (Jammu) Raghav Langar told media at Katra (Yatra base camp) that the Yatra, halted for a brief period after the stampede, resumed at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. He said that an inquiry was ordered to ascertain the reasons behind the incident. Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha ordered a high level inquiry into the stampede incident which will be headed by principal secretary home with divisional commissioner Jammu and Additional DGP Jammu as members. Prime Minister Narendra Modi sanctioned Rs 2 lakh each for the next of kin of those killed in the stampede while the Lt. Governor sanctioned Rs 10 lakh each for survivors of those killed. SWIGGY RECEIVES 9,500 ORDERS PER MINUTE ON NEW YEAR’S EVE NEW DELHI: Online food delivery platform Swiggy on Saturday said that it broke its record of 5,500 food orders per minute on December 31, ending the night with an order peak of 9,500 orders per minute for food alone. The company claimed that this is the highest ever for food delivery in India. “This year we exceeded all our plans by a big margin and were overwhelmed by the customer response. OPM reached almost 9,500 level by early dinner itself,” the company said in a statement. Country’s economic growth rate over 8 per cent, foreign investment at record high: PM NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that the country’s economic growth rate is over 8 per cent. Speaking at the release of the 10th installment of financial benefit under PM-KISAN, the Prime Minister said that the foreign investments, forex reserves, and GST collections are also at record high levels. “Today the growth rate of our economy is more than 8 per cent. Record foreign investment has come to India. Old records have also been broken in the GST collection. We have also set new paradigms in the matter of exports and especially agriculture,” said PM Modi. PM Modi said that it is time to start a “new vibrant journey” of the country’s resolves in the year India will complete 75 years of independence. “Today, as we are entering the new year, taking inspiration from our efforts of the past year, we have to move towards new resolutions. This year we will complete 75 years of our independence. This is the time to start a new vibrant journey of the country’s resolves, to move forward with renewed vigour,” he added. During the event, the Prime Minister also released an equity grant of more than Rs 14 crores to about 351 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), which will benefit more than 1.24 lakh farmers. As per an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, this is in line with the government’s continued commitment and resolve to empower grassroots-level farmers. This will enable the transfer of an amount of more than Rs 20,000 crore to more than 10 crore beneficiary farmer families, said PMO. State Govt to identify kins of Kharsawan firing martyrs SANJAY SAHAY RANCHI: Paying homage to martyrs of Kharsawan firing incident Chief Minister (CM) Hemant Soren on Saturday said that his government was trying to identify the unknown martyrs of the episode to restore their honour and rights. Notably, the CM paid tribute to the martyrs of the firing incident at Veer Kerse Munda Chowk. He observed that Jharkhand was a land of brave people and martyrs. Many people of state have sacrificed their lives for the state and country. A significant number of them are unidentified and their names are not registered in history. The CM informed that the martyr’s park would be developed at a cost of Rs 16 crore. Apart from beautification a multipurpose building and other facilities would be provided here. He said that every year people gather in Kharsawan in large number to pay homage to the martyrs adding that their sacrifice should be spread among the new generation as well. He stated that the dependents of martyrs and the revolutionaries for separate Jharkhand state would get five percent reservation in government jobs. The CM also wished the people of state on the occasion of New Year. Notably, a large number of adivasis had gathered at Kharsawan to protest the merger of Saraikela Kharsawan with Odisha. The Odhisa Military Police, which was present to prevent any gathering fired at the crowd leading to death of a large number of adivasis. A report in a daily English newspaper stated that 35 people were killed but the actual figure is said to be much more. This incident is also known as the ‘Jaliawallah Baag’ of Independent India. Ministers Champai Soren, Joba Manjhi, Banna Gupta , former CM Madhu Koda, Member of Parliament Geeta Koda and MLAs including Dashrath Gagrai, Niral Purti , Deepak Birua, Sukhram Oraon and Svita Mahto also paid respect to the martyrs. NEW DELHI: New Delhi, Jan 1 (IANS) India registered a substantial spike in daily Covid cases at 22,775 in a span of 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday. Also, 406 deaths were reported in the same time span pushing the toll to 4,81,486. However, the active caseload jumped to 1,04,781 which constitute 0.30 per cent of the country’s total positive cases. Meanwhile, the Omicron infection tally has increased to 1,431 across the nation. However, of the total cases, 488 have been discharged from hospitals. So far, 23 states have reported Omicron infections, the Ministry said. The recovery of 8,949 patients in the last 24 hours has increased the cumulative tally to 3,42,75,312. Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.32 per cent. Also in the same period, a total of 11,10,855 tests were conducted across the country. India has, so far, conducted over 67.89 crore cumulative tests. Meanwhile, the weekly positivity rate has climbed to 1.10 per cent amid sudden spike of the cases. The daily positivity rate stands at 2.05 per cent. With the administration of 58,11,587 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, the country’s Covid inoculation coverage has reached 145.16 crore as of Saturday morning. More than 19.52 crore balance and unutilised Covid vaccine doses are still available with the states and UTs.
