ANI Goans will give befitting response to BJP for insulting Mamata Banerjee: TMC MI NEWS SERVICE PANAJI: Goa Trinamool Congress on Tuesday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) allegedly had a closed-door meeting where it was decided that the former party's hoardings across the State would be damaged overnight, and the photo of TMC Chairperson and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee would be defaced, said a press release by Goa TMC. Goa TMC condemns this act of vandalism that amounts to insulting a woman who is the only sitting female Chief Minister in the country. Goans will definitely give a befitting response to such a vengeful Government. The latest pictures are evidence of how the BJP has not just vandalised Goa TMC branding but has done so at the cost of Goans, added the press release. Goa TMC condemns all acts of vandalism and attempts to threaten the party by the ruling dispensation. In a series of vengeful acts, multiple party hoardings and billboards across the State were pulled down and destroyed, as per the press release. While defacing Mamata Banerjee's face in hoardings is in itself a shameful act, what's more, alarming is how the BJP, drunk on power, is destroying local businesses, as per the press release. They forget that in all such contracts it is the liability of the businessmen or the ven- PAN INDIA HELPLINE FOR CYBER CRIME, FRAUDS LAUNCHED dor to replace any damaged hoarding with their own money. So, clearly, the BJP is not just spreading hate but is also attacking the livelihood of hundreds of fellow Goans by destroying their business. Such acts are an attack on the fearless atmosphere for business, according to the press release. And given how the authorities today tried to stop the Goa TMC 'People's Chargesheet' event, it is certain that Goa TMC's entry into the State has rattled the BJP. These deplorable attacks must stop at once. ‘Sack Goa CM’ T he Trinamool Congress on Tuesday demanded the dismissal of Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and his cabinet in wake of serious allegations of corruption levelled by former Governor Satya Pal Malik. In a memorandum submitted to Goa Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, Trinamool national Vice P+resident Luizinho Faleiro also demanded a white paper on the purchases and expenditure incurred by the state government during the Covid pandemic. Malik, currently the Meghalaya Governor, alleged largescale corruption in the coastal state when the Covid-19 pandemic was at its peak, in an interview to a news channel on Monday. In the memorandum, Faleiro said: "The government must release a white paper regarding purchases and expenditure during the Covid-19 pandemic. This transparency is of critical importance at this time to restore people's faith in the government institutions. Administrative review meeting for Darjeeling and Kalimpong by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Kurseong on Tuesday MI NEWS SERVICE DARJEELING: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday urged the leaders of the Hills to make a final plan for "Permanent Political solution (PPS)" while adding that the Panchayat polls and Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) polls can be held only after the PPS. Banerjee is on a visit to North Bengal. Addressing the gathering, the chief minister said, "I request the hill leaders to make a final plan for hills-'Permanent Political solution' (PPS) and then we will go for Panchayat polls and Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) polls...Outsiders are creating problems in the hills, not the insiders." North Bengal had witnessed a lot of socio-political turbulence like the Gorkhaland movement. A separate state of 'Gorkhaland' has been a long-standing demand of Nepali-speaking Gorkhas since 1907 on the grounds that they are culturally and ethnically different from West Bengal. Opposing the Centre's decision to increase search and arrest jurisdiction of Border Security Force (BSF) in border states, Banerjee further said law and order is a state subject and West Bengal's borders with Bangladesh were completely peaceful. The Chief Minister also said her government will go by the "state laws". "I respect the forces but they cannot intentionally harass people in the name of security. I have already written a letter to the Centre opposing the BSF jurisdiction issue. Our border areas are completely peaceful. We do not need their involvement," she said. The Centre had earlier this month empowered the Border Security Force (BSF) to conduct searches, arrest suspects and make seizures up to an area of 50 km inside Indian territory from the International Border (IB) along India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders. The BSF, which was only empowered to take action up to 15 kilometers in the states of Punjab, West Bengal and Assam, has now been authorised to extend its jurisdiction up to 50 km without any hurdle or permission either from central or state governments. NEW DELHI: The Centre has launched a helpline number 155260 - for reporting cyber fraud or the consumer can directly lodge a complaint on Cyber Crime Portal regarding the same. "The helpline number has been prominently published on the National Consumer Helpline (NCH) portal. A banner link is also provided to directly lodge any complaint on the Cyber Crime Portal," Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, Leena Nandan told media persons here on Tuesday. The helpline and the prominent display of the link to lodge the complaints related to cyber crime are an endeavour of the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) under Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. Complaints of cyber fraud were regularly received on the NCH. The Department of Consumer Affairs, therefore, collaborated with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), Ministry of Home Affairs, for strengthening redressal of cyber fraud grievances on NCH. LAKHIMPUR KHERI VIOLENCE: SC SEEKS UP GOVT REPLY IN LYNCHING FIR, DIRECTS PROTECTION OF WITNESSES NATION ‘Rs 8 lakh income Sushmita Dev, Selvaganapathy take limit rational’: Centre oath as Rajya Sabha members defends EWS criterion MI NEWS SERVICE NEW DELHI: The Centre has told the Supreme Court that its decision to fix Rs 8 lakh income limit for OBCs and the economically weaker section (EWS) is not arbitrary in the NEET All India Quota, and it was finalised after considering diverse economic factors in different states. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, in an affidavit filed in the top court, said Rs 8 lakh as a criterion for determination of EWS as also as determination of the "creamy layer" in the OBC category is rational and in keeping with Articles 14, 15, and 16 of the Constitution. "The exercise conducted to determine the creamy layer for the purpose of OBC reservation would be equally applicable for determination of EWS category since the fundamental premise is that is that if a person/family have a substantial economic standing, he/ she may not require the benefits of reservation at the cost of others," said the affidavit, citing the Major General Sinho Commission report. The commission had also suggested existing criteria to identify creamy layer among OBCs to EWS families. NEW DELHI: Sushmita Dev from Trinamool Congress and S. Selvaganapathy of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took oath as members of Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. Both Dev and Selvaganapathy were elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha from West Bengal and Puducherry respectively in September. Talking about her election to Rajya Sabha to ANI, Dev said, "I will sit for the first time in Rajya Sabha as a Trinamool Congress member. There are a lot of responsibilities. I am from Assam, have been ordered to work in Tripura and was elected from West Bengal. There are issues of states, of people that need to be raised and I will try my best. I hope the opposition will get a chance to raise issues concerning people in the Winter Session of Parliament." She said the Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant should immediately resign after the governor from his own party exposed the corruption in his government. "The governor of Goa who was appointed by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has raised allegations against a Chief Minister of the same alliance. The investigation must be carried out and proper action must be taken against Sawant if Prime Minister Narendra Modi truly has zero tolerance against corruption. Otherwise, people should realise the difference between what he practices and preaches," she added. Former Goa Governor Satyapal Malik had earlier alleged that there was corruption in the Goa government. He in an interview to India Today had said, "There was corruption in Goa Government in the handling of everything." S. Selvaganapathy from BJP, thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President JP Nadda, Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangaswamy and members of Puducherry Legislative Assembly for giving him an opportunity to serve as a member of Rajya Sabha. "I would like to concentrate on public issues. I would like to develop Puducherry as a hub for business, education, spirituality and tourism. Puducherry is the gateway to enter other southern states. In two or three years we will get a chance to get members of assembly and Parliament from all southern states." The Election Commission had earlier in September announced by-polls for six Rajya Sabha seats across five states. These seats fell vacant due to the resignation or death of the sitting MPs. It also announced a biennial election for one seat from Puducherry.
