"The VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 resumes with the five-time champions and current title holders Mumbai Indians taking on three-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 19. "This match will be a momentous occasion as IPL will welcome the fans back to the stadiums after a brief hiatus owing to Covid-19 situation. Fans can buy tickets starting September 16 for the remainder of the tournament on the official website www.iplt20.com. Tickets can also be purchased on PlatinumList.net," the statement read. "Matches will be played at Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi with limited seating available keeping in mind the Covid protocols and UAE government regulations," it added. On September 8, IANS had reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government had agreed that crowds will be "allowed partialy" during the second phase of the IPL. DUBAI : Three-time IPL runnersup Royal Challengers Bangalore had their first practice match in The Sevens Stadium in Dubai to acclimatise to playing a full game in the hot and sultry conditions in UAE. The intra-squad practice match turned into an edge-of-theseat thriller with fantastic performances from both teams, RCBA and RCB-B, led by Harshal Patel and Devdutt Padikkal respectively. RCB-A team won the toss and asked RCB-B to bowl first. The 'A' team put on a fantastic batting display and put up a total of 212 runs led by AB de Villiers, who continued with his belligerent form from the first half of the tournament. The 37-year-old de Villiers plundered 104 off 46 deliveries, laced with 7 boundaries and 10 sixes. The South Africa veteran was accompanied by Mohammed Azharudden, who smashed 66 off 43 balls, including 3 sixes and 4 boundaries, as RCB-A set a 213run target. "When we arrived and I got out off the bus, I thought it's crazy that we're trying to play a cricket game in the middle of the day. Luckily the breeze came up, I told my partner at the crease that it's much better now and the pitch will get flatter. We had fun out there, I'm pleased with the runs on the board. It was very scratchy "Yes, it will be allowed this time as both the BCCI and UAE government have given a green light to let the crowd enter the stadium partially. Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) is doing everything possible to keep a check on cases (Covid-19)," the official had said. The second phase of IPL 2021 will resume with the clash Jamshedpur FC to aim for top-four finish in ISL this season: New signing Stewart Chris Gayle has to open the batting: Gautam Gambhir MUMBAI: Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir believes West Indies batsman Chris Gayle has to open for his IPL team Punjab Kings during the second leg of IPL 2021. He also said it makes no sense to have the bighitting Jamaican batting at three. "He has to open the batting. If Chris Gayle is in your team, then why would you want him to bat at number three. It makes no sense for anyone to put Chris Gayle at number three. West Indies did that, Punjab Kings did that. I have no clue why someone would do that," said Gambhir on Star Sports. "If Chris is in your playing 11, he has to open the batting because he is not going to waste balls. Probably at number three, he will have to run for a lot of singles, as compared to opening the batting. He could probably get you off to a flyer," added Gambhir. The 39-year-old felt that Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni will find it difficult to score runs quickly when coming out to bat, especially after retiring from international cricket. "MS was a player who would've actually batted at number 4 or 5 but we've seen in the first leg that he normally bats at number 6 or 7. There are times when he's actually pushed Sam Curran before him as well. The between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians on September 19. In total, 31 matches, including qualifiers, will be played over 27 days. reason behind this is that he's probably trying to be a mentor and a wicketkeeper, who can lead the side and keep wickets. If the situation comes to a point where he probably has to play 8 or 10 balls, he can just go out there and whack them." "It's going to be difficult for him, because once you are not playing international cricket; IPL is a very difficult tournament, it's not like CPL and other leagues. IPL is where you face top-quality bowlers. For me, I think the biggest challenge for CSK will be that the top order needs to fire because that's not the case anymore," added Gambhir. JAMSHEDPUR: Jamshedpur FC's new signing, Greg Stewart is eyeing nothing less than a top-four finish in the upcoming season of the Indian Super League (ISL). Last season, the club finished sixth on the points table, four points off four-placed FC Goa, and the Scot believes the club under Owen Coyle is determined to improve on that performance in a big way by reaching the semifinals in 2021/22, admitting at the same time that there would be pressure on them on account of expectations. "For me, I always like to put pressure on myself. You always want to challenge yourself. When you are playing for a team, you always want yourself to be at the top of the table, rather than at the bottom. You need to have that kind of mentality that you are going to be successful. We are going to push for the top-end. It's going to be an exciting season," Stewart said on the latest episode of Football United. Stewart also made it clear that while scoring a goal gives him a lot of kick, he understands the team expects him to do a lot more than that. "There is no better feeling than when you score a goal but I am also a team player. I like doing both [scoring goals and providing assists], to be honest. For me it's a little more buzz when you score a goal but as long as you win the game [it doesn't matter whether he scores or assists], that's all that matters to me," he said. "Excited for the season ahead. Hopefully, I can provide some goals and assists. Most of all, I hope can help my teammates and be a good team player." Stewart has joined Jamshedpur FC from Scottish club Rangers FC. Last season they, under Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, won the title. In doing so, they stopped Celtic FC from winning their 10th title in a row. The 31-year-old is pleased to have experienced that with Rangers but Shastri, Kohli great promoters of Test cricket in recent times: Taylor SYDNEY: Former Australia captain Mark Taylor has said that India captain Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri have been great supporters and promoters of Test cricket in recent times. He also said that Kohli has been excellent in his desire to play Test cricket. "(India coach) Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli (have) been great supporters and promoters of Test cricket in recent times. I think Virat has been excellent in that regard, really wanting to play Test cricket, prioritising the game," said Taylor to Wide World of Sports. Taylor expressed his worry on how long Test cricket remains a priority in future. "But the worry will be how long it continues for. There's no doubt as we all get older, and the new generations come through, this love that people like I have for Test cricket may diminish, and that's the concern for us older generation." The 56-year-old hoped the decision to cancel the fifth and final Test between England and for the first 20 balls out there. I was very happy to get the runs. There's nothing more valuable than just getting runs right in the middle," said de Villiers about his knock on the latest episode of RCB 'Bold Diaries'. In reply, the RCB-B came out to chase a formidable total and performed exceptionally. KS Bharat led from the front and scored 95 runs to be the team's leading scorer. Padikkal complemented him well with a 21-ball 36-run performance. The contest turned interesting towards the end as Padikkal's team required three runs off the final two deliveries. However, they finished the chase with a boundary and won the match by 7 wickets. "Very good game. Some good performances from a number of guys. Both top orders played really well. The fact we got to see them put under pressure at the end was exactly what I wanted to see," said Mike Hesson, Coach and Director of Cricket Operations, RCB. "We were hoping it will be a close game, but we saw the magic of AB in the first innings and Azhar batted really well. The second innings effort was better than the first innings. Chasing down a score of 212 and that partnership between KS and Dev where they put up 70 runs in 6 overs. What was pleasing to see was that all of them were well-timed cricket shots. They weren't looking to muscle the ball… A lot of positives from this game and I am pretty sure this will build their confidence going into the tournament," said batting consultant Sanjay Bangar. Royal Challengers Bangalore will begin their second leg of the IPL 2021 against the Kolkata Knight Riders on September 20 in Abu Dhabi. They are ranked third in the points table with 10 points from seven matches. India in Manchester was not made to prioritise the second leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 edition. "I don't think anyone would hold any sort of grudge against the players not wanting to play a game when they've got genuine concerns about COVID infection. I think now we want to see some consistency. Pulling out of a Test match is huge for the game of cricket, particularly an India series, it's a big series," said Taylor. "When players make a stance against that we all understand that, we do, and we understand that health comes first. But people have to look after the health of the game. It puts pressure on the game of Test cricket in particular, and then you've got a game of T20, a domestic series coming up that all those players want to play," added Taylor. "We've got to be careful; the players have to be careful that they send a consistent message. If similar things happened in the IPL, I would like to see similar action taken by the players," concluded Taylor. now wants to look ahead and focus on his stint in India. "It was a historic year for us. To go the whole season undefeated and stop Celtic's 10th [title] in a row… it was massive for the club. I won't forget the experience. It was good to work with Steven as well. As you know football is a learning curve every day. Those two years were great at Rangers. Hopefully, I can look back on that [with pride] when I finish my career and speak about it. For now, I am just "FOR ME, I ALWAYS LIKE TO PUT PRESSURE ON MYSELF. WE ARE GOING TO PUSH FOR THE TOPEND. IT'S GOING TO BE AN EXCITING SEASON," STEWART SAID ON THE LATEST EPISODE OF FOOTBALL UNITED. STEWART ALSO MADE IT CLEAR THAT WHILE SCORING A GOAL GIVES HIM A LOT OF KICK, HE UNDERSTANDS THE TEAM EXPECTS HIM TO DO A LOT MORE THAN THAT. looking forward to my future and getting a move on, getting over to India and kick-starting over there," he said. Stewart also revealed what prompted him to move to India with Jamshedpur FC. "I had a chat with head coach Owen Coyle. He explained to me what the league [ISL] is all about. I wanted to have this challenge. It was something I was keen on," he said.
