Interestingly, the ordinance does not mention the term 'love jihad' and the draft has been named 'Vidhi Virudh Dharmantaran 2020'. The cabinet meeting held on Tuesday gave its nod to the proposed draft. The Bill is considered to be an anti-conversion law and it will stop individuals from converting people to other faiths by enticing or threatening. PG 5 CYCLONE NIVAR TO INTENSIFY INTO SEVERE STORM IN 12 HRS: MHA NEW DELHI: Cyclone Nivar is very likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours and is centred about 380 km east by southeast of Puducherry and 430 km southeast of Chennai, the Union Home Ministry said on Tuesday. Sharing the information based on inputs received from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Ministry said the cyclone is very likely to cross Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mamallapuram. However, he subtly expressed his displeasure over the politics being played over the issue. The PM's assertion comes in the wake of a slew of vaccine makers reporting reasonable success rates. The Prime Minister, in no uncertain terms, made it clear that it is the "duty" of the nation to vaccinate frontline workers first. He also stressed that the vaccine distribution system must be transparent and thus allay the fears of many Indians. The current rise in Covid cases in several parts of the country was more urgent and should have been discussed, he opined. Soren said that the entire focus of the PM was on vaccines and their administration, adding still there are lot of uncertainties about their launch and efficacy. India bans 43 Chinese mobile apps over national security concerns State signs MoU for ownership of Hotel Ashoka SANJAY SAHAY RANCHI: Jharkhand State Tourism Development Corporation (JSTDC) on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) for taking over the ownership of the Hotel Ashoka located in the heart of the state capital. With it, the ITDC has transferred its share to the Jharkhand government giving the latter a 62.5 percent share in the organisation. The Bihar government owns 37.5 percent of the share. Speaking at the function held at Project Building, Chief Minister (CM) Hemant Soren said that even though Jharkhand is known for its mineral resources the state government is trying to turn the state into a popular tourist spot as well, adding there is a large scope in this sector. The CM said that on the initiative of the tourism department JSTDC has signed the MoU for acquiring 51 percent share in the Hotel Ashoka, adding it was a big milestone for the government. He opined that tourism was an untouched sector in the last 20 years and an outline for its development is required. This sector would provide immense employment opportunities, he said. DHONI’S MENTOR DEVAL SAHAY PASSES AWAY RANCHI: Deval Sahay, mentor of cricket icon Mahendra Singh Dhoni and who is credited with preparing first turf pitches in Ranchi, passed away due to multi-organ failure in the early hours of Tuesday in a hospital in the state capital. Sahay, also described as "Bhishmapitamah" of cricket in undivided Bihar, was 73, and is survived by his wife, a daughter, and a son. ANI CM nod to act against IPS officer RAJ KUMAR RANCHI: Giving a strong message to erring IPS officers, Chief Minister Hemant Soren today approved action against 1990 batch IPS officer, Anurag Gupta, under Sections 7 and 13 (1) (d) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption of Act. 1988 read with section 120 (b) of IPC. Gupta, who was ADG (CID) during the Rajya Sabha election in 2016, allegedly mounted pressure on Yogendra Sao to ask his wife Nirmala Devi not to vote in favour of the JMM candidate during Rajya Sabha election to ensure the victory of the BJP candidate and thus misused his position. An FIR was registered against him on March 29, 2018 at Jagannathpur police station on the direction of the Election Commission under Sections 171B and 171 of IPC. The action was taken after present BJP legislature party leader, Babulal Marandi, who was then Jharkhand Vikas Morcha chief, had raised the issue by releasing a CD containing the dialogue of Gupta with Sao. Marandi releasing the CD said that Gupta called Sao 26 times either to lure or to threaten him with dire consequences. The then principal secretary of the Election Commission Birendra Kumar had probed the matter at his level and directed the then Chief Secretary of the state to register an FIR against Gupta on June 13, 2017 and start departmental proceedings against him. During the tenure of the Raghubar Das government, no action was taken against him and he enjoyed his position. After the Hemant Soren government came into power, it suspended the 'tainted' IPS officer and now approved action against him giving a strong message to erring IPS officers. NEW DELHI: Continuing with its ban orders on Chinese apps, the Indian government on Tuesday blocked 43 new mobile apps, including shopping website AliExpress owned by e-commerce behemoth Alibaba. Other popular apps that have been banned include WeWorkChina, CamCard and Snack. These apps have been banned by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) for engaging in activities which are "prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of the country, defence, security of the state and public order". The ministry banned these apps based on reports received from the Indian Cyber Crime Co-ordination Centre, Ministry of Home Affairs. The Indian government had on September 2 banned 118 apps on national security concerns, including the immensely popular PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) Mobile, Baidu and couple of virtual private networks (VPNs) that allowed access to TikTok that was banned earlier. Other popular banned apps were Baidu Express Edition, ShareSave by Xiaomi, WeChat Work, Tencent Weiyun, Tencent Watchlist, Alipay, GO SMS Pro, ZAKZAK Pro and Live, Smart AppLock and Ludo World-Ludo Superstar, among others In July, the government barred 47 Chinese apps from operating in the country, which were largely clones of the 59 apps that were banned in June. On June 29, the government banned 59 Chinese apps, including TikTok, WeChat, UC Browser and Xiaomi's Mi Community, over national security concerns amid the border tussle in Eastern Ladakh which led to the death of 20 Indian soldiers in a bloody clash with Chinese PLA troops in the Galwan Valley in June. Other Chinese apps in the banned list were Club Factory, SHAREit, Likee, Mi Video Call (Xiaomi), Weibo, Baidu, BIGO LIVE and more. MORE ON PAGE 7 ‘Delhi Crime’ wins International Emmy for Best Drama Series T he web series Delhi Crime has won the Best Drama Series award at the 48th International Emmy Awards, held virtually this year owing to the ongoing Covid pandemic. The show becomes the first Indian programme to win an International Emmy. The news was confirmed by the International Emmy Awards on its official page on Twitter. ""The International Emmy for Drama Series goes to 'Delhi Crime' produced by @GoldenKaravan / @skglobalent / @NetflixIndia," tweeted @iemmys, with the tags #India!, #iemmys and #iemmyWIN. Writer-director Richie Mehta's seven-episode series has Shefali Shah in the central role of DCP Vartika Chaturvedi, and narrates the story of investigation in the aftermath of the heinous Delhi gang-rape of December 2012. Shefali posted a video on her official Instagram page that shows the award being announced. As soon as the show is declared winner in the Drama Series category, Shefali can be heard reacting with delirious joy. Although we don't see her in the video, she can be heard shrieking "Oh my God!" several times. "OMGGGGGGGGGGGG OMGGGGGGGGGGGG OMGGGGGGGGGGGG," she wrote as caption to the video.
