Bengal recorded 4157 in cases in Covid-19 infection KOLKATA: “Indian Naval Ship Kavaratti”, the last in the series of four AntiSubmarine Warfare Corvettes’ (ASWC) built by the city based Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE), was commissioned to the Indian Navy today. INS Kavaratti the state of the art warship was commissioned by the Chief of the Army Staff, General MM Naravane, in presence of Rear Admiral VK Saxena, Kolkata: West Bengal on Thursday reported a record 4,157 new infections of COVID19 which pushed the total caseload to 3,37,283, the bulletin released by the state health department said. The death toll rose to 6,308 with 64 more people succumbing to the disease, it said. According to the bulletin, the discharge rate slipped to 87.44 per cent even as a record number of 3,608 recoveries were reported in the last 24 hours. So far, 2,94,911 people have recovered from the disease. There were 18 IN(Retd), Chairman and Managing Director, GRSE, and other senior officials of the Indian Navy. The induction of the warship into the Indian Navy will further strengthen the maritime security of the nation. INS Kavaratti and INS Kiltan, the first two indigenously developed Special High Strength Warships are the first two major warships in the country to have the unique feature of Superstructure made of Carbon Fiber Composite Material. GRSE is the first shipyard in the country to have successfully achieved this feat, wherein composite material has been integrated with the steel hull of these two ships. This new age material, has led to an overall reduced weight which in turn led to significant speed/ maneuverability improvements and increased stability of over 20 per cent. These potent platforms demonstrated their expertise in several Overseas Operations and International Maritime Exhibitions. INS Kavaratti will also follow similar operation, the GRSE sources here today said adding that well equipped to fight in Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Warfare conditions and featuring the integration of a host of weapons and sensors, these P28 Class of ships were a milestone in the journey towards “Atmanirbhar Abhiyaan”. GRSE is currently executing three major shipbuilding projects ro supply 3 Advanced Stealth Frigates, 4 Survey Vessels (Large) and 8 AntiSubmarine Warfare Shallow Water Crafts. The shipyard plans to deliver the last ship of the LCU Class by this year end and the 1st P17A Ship is expected to be launched in December this year, well ahead of schedule, the sources informed.
