A survey by the Retailers Association of India (RAI) and LitmusWorld shows that around 80 per cent Indian consumers are looking forward to buy products during the upcoming festive season. The 'Festive Shopping Index 2020' shows that around 75 per cent of the consumers would be shopping online and around 66 per cent would also consider shopping at standalone stores and 37 per cent want to visit malls. The survey observed that the trend reflects the rise of omnichannel shopping. "While online is the primary mode of discovery, consumers are looking forward to purchasing at physical stores," said a joint statement by RAI and LitmusWorld. Commenting on the festive shopping sentiments, Kumar Rajagopalan, CEO of RAI, said: "Retailers are looking at the festive THE 'FESTIVE SHOPPING INDEX 2020' SHOWS THAT AROUND 75 PC OF THE CONSUMERS WOULD BE SHOPPING ONLINE AND AROUND 66 PC WOULD ALSO CONSIDER SHOPPING AT STAND-ALONE STORES AND 37 PC WANT TO VISIT MALLS. season with some amount of cautious optimism. We believe that all formats of retail will see resurgence but on an omni-channel basis." He said that customers do feel the need to reconnect with a sense of cheer and are slowly coming out to shop. "However, they may not shop in the same way they have been shopping all these years. There is a lot of reliance on what is being shown to them digitally," he added. The survey found that having been confined to their homes for so long away from relatives and friends, there seems to be some excitement around gifting, highlighting the need to rekindle relationships and reconnect. About 23 per cent respondents expressed their intent to purchase gifts along with items for their personal use. It revealed that 53 per cent of the respondents wanted to buy apparels and about 47 per cent wanted to get home appliances and electronics. The customers would prefer paying through digital modes of payment such as credit cards, debit cards, mobile wallets and UPI. "In spite of the pandemic, the Indian consumer is still very excited for the festive shopping season and that's a big positive for retailers. However, the industry will need to respond with interesting value propositions and superior customer experience across offline and online channels to boost festive demand and increase the wallet share of consumers," said Khushaal Talreja, Head of Marketing & Partnerships, LitmusWorld. The court of district judge Sadhna Rani Thakur has fixed November 18 as the next date of hearing in the case. Earlier in October, a civil court in Mathura had dismissed a plea seeking order to remove the Shahi Idgah Mosque. The petitioner had alleged that it was built over Krishna Janmabhoomi. Mathura is considered to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna. The mosque in question was built in the 17th century. According to petitioners, it was built at the birthplace of Lord Krishna, within the 13-acre premises of the Katra Keshav Dev temple. Since the November 2019 Supreme Court verdict in the Ram JanmabhoomiBabri Masjid title dispute case, the clamour has been growing to remove mosques that are adjacent to prominent temples in the country like the Krishna Janambhoomi in Mathura and the Kashi Vishwanath in Varanasi. A five-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court headed by then Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi had ruled that the disputed land in Ayodhya be given for construction of a temple, while Muslims would get an alternate plot elsewhere in the Uttar Pradesh town. PG 3 STRAIGHT CONTEST BETWEEN ANUP, BATUL IN BERMO CONG’S CANDIDATE ANUP STARTED WORKING QUITE EARLY AND SAID TO HAVE AN ADVANTAGE IN BYPOLLS ANURAG THAKUR RANCHI: Bermo seat is all set to witness an interesting electoral battle in the upcoming assembly bypolls. While Rajendra Prasad Singh’s elder son Jaimangal Singh alias Anup Singh has been fielded by the Congress, the BJP has once again fielded Yageshwar Mahto Batul. Notably, the Bermo seat has fallen vacant after the death of Rajendra Prasad Singh. The Congress feels that fielding his son Anup Singh will help it in two ways. While the traditional votes and late Rajendra Singh’s support base would remain intact for it, it feels some sympathy vote would also help it in the elections. Meanwhile, JMM is also supporting Anup. Chief Minister Hemant Soren himself is campaigning for him. Meanwhile, Anup, while talking to Morning India said he will get the blessings of his father Rajendra Singh who has served the people here for so long. He is contesting the election following his father's path which he has seen from his childhood. Targeting the BJP government he said that it had done nothing for the people of Jharkhand and the Hemant government is a government of and for the people. On the other hand, BJP has once again shown confidence in Yogeshar Mahto Batul, who is contesting elections on the Bermo Assembly seat for the 5th time. Batul has the distinction of breaking the victory spree of late leader Rajendra Prasad Singh in 2005. Singh had been winning this seat continuously, but Batul routed him in 2005 for the first time. Later, Rajendra Prasad Singh of Congress again defeated Batul in 2009. This time too Batul will have the support of AJSU too. Anup Singh is the eldest son of Rajendra Prasad Singh. He was inducted into politics when late Singh was active. After the father’s death, Anup has come into the leadership of most of the trade unions led by his father. Anup has also started building connections with most of the people known to have been supporters of his father. He has started working on his seat quite early and would have an advantage in the bypolls. The younger son of late Rajendra Prasad Singh is also active in politics. He is also the president of the Jharkhand Youth Congress. Both brothers would try their best to defeat the BJP candidate this time too. It is noteworthy that the bye-elections are to be held for Dumka and Bermo, two Assembly seats in Jharkhand. While JMM is in the fray from Dumka, the other partner in the coalition Government, Congress will contest from Bermo seat. Jharkhand Youth Congress president Kumar Gaurav said that the party has started its poll preparations two months earlier and each and every Youth Congress worker is visiting door to door to ensure the Congress candidate's victo- ry from the seat. This time the Congress candidate will win by double margin compared to the last election, he asserted. Notably, by-elections are being held in two constituencies in Jharkhand. Following the resignation of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, his younger brother Basant Soren is contesting for the vacant seat. After the death of Rajendra Prasad Singh, MLA of the same Bermo, the Congress gave the ticket to his eldest son. Both these candidates will face the BJP candidates directly. Voting will take place on November 3 in both assembly constituencies and counting will take place on November 10.
